Product Description

"The Way It Was" "Old World Italian Recipes For New World Cooks" is an extraordinary collection of mouth-watering hard to find old world Italian specialty recipes. Delicious recipes with origins from the Basalicata region of Italy. It is a sad fact of life that many things including foods that were once the mainstay of family living are slowly slipping unintentionally into oblivion. Those special recipes that took hours to prepare will be lost forever unless we the keepers of the past take the time to preserve their memories as well as we remember them to be in books such as this. I have fond memories of those days long past and have tried to pass to my children the importance of family and the good times we shared and enjoyed together. Today the phrase that is most commonly used is bonding. When I was growing up it was only natural for our family to sit together around the kitchen table to eat dinner and enjoy the meal that Mom had spent all day cooking for us; we would talk to each other without the disruption of a loud TV in the background or someones cell phone ringing or someone paying attention to a new text message they just received. Well my friends their is nothing that I can think of that is more bonding or more wonderful than sitting with your loved ones enjoying each other and having a great dinner together. NOTE: The recipes in this book "The Way It Was" are the same as those written in my Italian recipe book titled "EZ Italian Cooking". This much larger edition is with photos and commentary of days gone by.

Being 100% Italian (married name hides that wonderful fact) that grew up in New York I cannot thank you enough for this cookbook. I really appreciate seeing all these recipes (some I had forgotten) that were and still are affordable and many made from homegrown ingredients.

Completely agree with Buonpastore's sprinkling of 'The Way It Was' comments like "Homes were cold but people were warmer... Delicious aromas emanating from the kitchen".

Oh how I miss my Mom and Nana's cooking. Those were the days.

    Thanks!

    A. J. Buonpastore's "The Way It Was" "Old World Italian Recipes For New World Cooks" is the kindle version of his 2010 The Way It Was: Old World Italian Recipes For New World Cooks, which is still available. Unfortunately he didn't include the pictures from the print version in the Kindle - rare old photos from what looks to be the 1870s or thereabout.

It is nice to see someone of my father's generation (Dad was almost 90 when he died a couple of years ago) writing about growing up during the Great Depression. I've heard my own parents' versions of a number of A.J.'s stories and remember going to the movies for 10 cents myself! If you never cook a single thing from the book,... Read more

The receipes in this book are very good!!! They remind me of how food was prepared years ago. Additionally the short stories that accompany the food preparation are entertaining. I highly recommend this book!!!
